This is beautiful and inspiring. Thank GOD, technology and a good Doctor who cares deeply for this child. His face shows it all. Her life is changed forever because of this man.
AWESOME. Powerful message.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:12 am
You leave your god out of this. This is polymers. This is science.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:14 am
beautiful, but god had nothing to do with it. it is people like this man who restore my faith in humanity
September 11th, 2007 at 3:38 am
Science Pwns
September 11th, 2007 at 3:44 am
god? Are you kidding me? So god took away her ear only to give here a plastic one, amazing, no wonder people worship such an amazing miracle.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:47 am
Humanity?
Humanity would be to accept this girl for who she is and stop trying to make everyone look like they were cut out of a catalogue. Instead of teaching children not to judge others by their looks, we simply change their looks.
Science, yes! Humanity, no…
September 11th, 2007 at 3:53 am
beautiful….
i feel happy for her….
September 11th, 2007 at 4:02 am
People have different opinions on God.
Mine is that without them there would be no polymers, there would be no hands to shape the polymers, there would be no tools to make the polymer into a replica of a human ear, there would be no materials to build the building that they are performing the operation. So… Yes God has everything do to with that.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:04 am
Oh yes, and kudos to the dr.:D:D
September 11th, 2007 at 4:16 am
I believe that God is in everything, God can very much use science!
September 11th, 2007 at 4:31 am
While the ear is not quite perfect it will serve to give this poor child some dignity. As to the first post I agree completely. The World needs more people like this doctor.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:41 am
Why must you drag your religion into this?
Leave your god out of it and appreciate it for what it is.
September 11th, 2007 at 5:17 am
science = fucking amazing
God . . . you could pray for your ear back?
September 11th, 2007 at 5:28 am
You know that is so awesome, I know that it is science, But sincerely I believe in science, I believe in jesus, and this is truly the work of just one extraordinary talent. I applaud his work, and hope that he has helped that little girl with some of her own self esteem issues.
September 11th, 2007 at 5:41 am
Well, here we have the next (anti)religious flame-war about to start.
Isn’t intolerance one of the “trademarks” of Christianity? Yet, we have here people being just as, if not more intolerant of the mere mention of God(tm)
Tell me, if I said “Thank BUDDAH” would it be more acceptable to you? How about “Praise Cthulhu”?
If you’re going to snarl “Leave your god out of it” I would say to you, Leave your own god, he of rudeness, at home and learn accept the not all believe (or not) as you do.
And that goes for any religion, or lack thereof.
September 11th, 2007 at 5:42 am
why do you guys take offence for someone thanking God for this beautifull act? He does not impose God on you, he does not attack non believers, he does no one harm with his expression, he just expresses his joy. who cares if there is a God or not behind it, it doesnt matter here. and we do not live in a utopia, humanity is the way it is and now it will accept the girl more. Like you would really accept someone without ears (yeah you would say so, but in the end you would not marry her, she will probably not become your friend, you would rather not hire her to work with clients, and so on.. SO STOP BEING SO DAMN SELFRIGHTIOUS.)
I am gratefull a doctor like that exists, i have seen some other work from his hands, and he is a master, he uses his talent to help people. He is a true saviour and angel for doing that.
September 11th, 2007 at 5:48 am
Are you open to the possibility that this is appreciated more fully when it is not considered in isolation by when he ‘drags his religion’ in?
September 11th, 2007 at 6:19 am
It’s wonderful to be able to make a child so happy. Nice work, Doc!
September 11th, 2007 at 6:27 am
How did some pics of a girl’s prosthetic ear turn into this huge God thing? Why the hell is everyone so offended to hear someone say “thank God”? Jeez. Grow up. Don’t be so insecure in your lack of belief that someone with beliefs turns you off so much. Yeah, it’s polymers. Thank whatever it is for polymers. That woman saw a touching set of pictures and it made her think of her faith. So what?? Boo-hoo. I’m so pissed off that someone else believes in God.
September 11th, 2007 at 6:29 am
God or no God, the last picture says it all. Just look at the Doc’s smile.
September 11th, 2007 at 6:44 am
I am a non-believer and as such have had my fill of christian dogma and such, how ever I’m just as full of you (other atheists) chocking your non-belief down the throats of others. Why is this? Possibly because you are so insecure in your non-belief that you feel shouting real loudly will make it more real? Give it a break would you. Every one unto their own. Its was a great job, well done to all concerned.

This series is of Robert Barron and a client -
Robert R. Barron, former Senior CIA Disguise Specialist,
committed to restoring identities through prosthetic devices.
Here is his website:

I think the original message may have offended some people simply by the use of capital letters for the noun GOD. When people right with CAPITALS, it often implies, or can be interpreted, as an act if emphasis. So, some may think that the first poster really wanted to shove it in one’s face so to say. Almost as if to say, Hey guys, look what GOD did! In any case, whether this was the intention or not, it may have been taken that way.
Now, the other issue here is the notion that most of us have that we’re actually separate from the process of “all that is” anyways. The same body of intelligence, humanity, creativity, LIFE, came up with the concepts of God and of Science. Forget the debate between does the mean guy on a cloud exist and did he invent science, and instead, embrace the idea that we’re all part of the same process of “All that is” unfolding and we can reinterpret that notion and all notions as one of life-universe evolution (dharma)or something more alien and separate from us. If you follow Einstein then you agree that, ulimately, everything is made of energy. And if that’s the case you must ask yourself, well then, WHAT IS ENERGY!?! Don’t forget, energy cannot be created nor destroyed so what does that really entail? How, where and why did we arrive here at this point. As for bonus ear - brilliant - choose your own adventure - if you want an ear - its yours - go get it.
— The energy that is expressing the thoughts that are.
September 11th, 2007 at 8:18 am
> I am a non-believer and as such have had my fill of christian
> dogma and such, how ever I’m just as full of you (other
> atheists) chocking your non-belief down the throats of others.
> Why is this?
Because we care about the society in which we live.
In order for humans to thrive and prosper we need society - an agreed set of rules about how to behave. For example, you can easily see that those societies where people agree not to kill or steal from one another do better than those societies that don’t.
Some rules are fairly easily agreed on - don’t kill, don’t steal - but others are less so - don’t have sex outside marriage, don’t eat pork, don’t allow women the same status as men.
So how can we settle disputes between people over which rules we should adopt?
There are really two ways - the rational and the irrational.
The rational way is to look at the evidence. Does the evidence show that people in general will be better off if women have the same status, less status or more status than men?
The irrational way ignores evidence in favour of a person’s private feelings or ‘faith’.
If you go the rational way, the debate can be settled because the evidence can be evaluated objectively. For example, the debate about whether the earth is flat or spherical has largely been settled because the evidence for a spherical earth is overwhelming.
If you the irrational way, the debate cannot be settled. How can you agree that one person’s feelings are more important than another’s? This deadlock will often end up being settled by violence - as an example, consider the enormous amount of blood spilled by various groups who ‘feel’ that they should control Jerusalem.
Irrationality leads to deadlock and then to violence. Many people who believe in God do so without any direct evidence to support their belief. As such, they are highly irrational. The more irrational people there are in a society, the higher the chance of deadlock and violence. Therefore, promoting rationality (in this case, a state of extreme skepticism about the existence of God) makes for a more peaceful society. That’s why atheists are keen to promote scientific rationalism, and the atheism that inevitably arises from it.
September 11th, 2007 at 9:08 am
when u have parents like that, no wonder she aint got no ear.
whats really remarkable though is the fact u lot have talked more about god vs science then this.
September 11th, 2007 at 9:33 am
I bet next year they’ll get her fake tits and botox.
The real tragedy is that the parents are teaching this little girl at an early age that if you’re not happy with your body, then plastic surgery’s the answer. Never mind accepting who you are and becoming strong because of it, no… listen to everyone’s mocking and let it get to you, then make an appointment with Dr Happyslash and get yourself “corrected”.
Sure sure, it wasn’t her fault she got gnawed on by a badger or whatever. Kids are very impressionable; don’t tell them they need a fake ear.. tell them to tell whoever gives them shit for having a ear-nub to go fuck themselves.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:06 am
I think the problem I have with the first post is it gives credit to god where none is due. The credit for this work goes purely the doctors and scientists that have worked do hard for this to be possible. I wouldn’t give your god any more credit for this than I would Allah, Zeus or the flying spaghetti monster.
It is strange that nobody seems to be particularly inclined to say that god is responsible for the missing ear in the first place.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:19 am
People get mad when others thank god because it belittles the accomplishments of humans. As in this Doc wouldn’t have been able to do this had he not been a tool of god. I don’t believe in god, but I do believe in people. God has never hurt me or made me happy, but people have. God has never built my house or paid my bills or inspired me to do better, but people have. Most people who claim to have been affected in such ways by god are ignoring the people who made the affectations possible, be it the authors of the bible, the priests who read the bible, or even just the person who fears god therefore does good deeds, it all comes down to people.
My main problem with religious people is they seem to lack faith in mankind, rather they replace what should be a trust in their neighbor, friends and family with a relationship with an imaginary being that never challenges them in a real and substantial way.
September 11th, 2007 at 11:08 am
Wow. Spaghettimonster summed it up in a way, I could never.
Props to you, sir.
September 11th, 2007 at 11:10 am
Wonderful work from the doctor; while we shouldn’t care about what another person looks like, this *will* save her from being teased about her lack of ear.
As for the religious/non-religious debate, for the love of all that’s good, why bother flailing about it here? It’s not changing anyone’s mind and it’s not harming *anyone* here. Why not get a case of warm fuzzies that there’s someone out there that includes in his life’s work making life easier for other and move on? Is it too hard? Do both sides feel this burning need to proselytize?
September 11th, 2007 at 11:45 am
You are all morons…or Mormon’s…either way all of you are still wrong..there is no god, but there is a gooood, duh? plus we all evolved from bananas anyways so whats the point in arguing about it..just accept the truth…ALL HALE THE BANANA JEWMASS!
September 11th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Thank God or Not that I’m an agnostic, because whereas I had no problem with atheists before I started reading these post, I’m seriously beginning to doubt that they are any better than fundies.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
very cool god bless the good doctor.
September 11th, 2007 at 1:27 pm
john.
let’s get married
September 11th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
How many atheistic kids does it take to understand that they are calling the kettle black? The internet is chock full o nuts…
September 11th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
How did this become a debate about religion? Could both camps please leave their baggage at home?
This kind of quality prosthetic work can make an unbelievable difference in a person’s life. I have a friend from high-school and a family member facial deformities– one from being scalded in a childhood accident by a pot of boiling water, the other as a result of a malign skin cancer late in life.
Although in neither case was it the person’s fault, in neither case is the cause genetic, and despite both being strong, independent people, it inevitably had a huge impact on their life and the way they relate to other people.
You can’t hide a facial disfigurement. You can’t cover it up. And people can’t help but notice, despite their best intentions; it’s very hard to keep from looking.
This girl’s prosthetic won’t stop other kids from being cruel, but it will mean she can talk face to face with someone without their eyes inevitably flicking towards her missing ear… and that will do wonders for her self confidence.
September 11th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
There is no god. Get over it.
September 11th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
I believe that you should all keep tbe idea of god to yourself. Who one votes for and who or what one chooses to believe should be kept to one’s self. How nice for the girl and her family that this can be done. Plenty of others who came before did not have the chance to have this. It’s all timing and learning.
September 11th, 2007 at 5:56 pm
This turned out to be a great post and then you guys ruined it by your inability to accept a common phrase such as “thank god”.
Congrats, you’ve put what should be an inspiring and heart-touching picture to shame with your flames and rants and ignorance. People like the doctor restore my faith in humanity aswell and then stupid people like you remind me once more why people fucking suck…
Eat a dick.
September 11th, 2007 at 7:55 pm
you people are depressing…its just a nice story about a girl who got an ear…shut up and enjoy it
September 11th, 2007 at 7:57 pm
“There is no god. Get over it.”
Fatality.
September 11th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
Its simple; the first post invokes their deity, this assumes it is acceptable to invoke the wondrous powers of their own deity without a single thought that other readers have different deities and some do not have deities, this is ignorance in its most basic form. Unfortunately the religious community thrive on ignorance.
September 11th, 2007 at 11:34 pm
thats is soo nice of the doctor to do that its so awesome the little girls must be soo proud to have here ear back so must there mum and dad
September 11th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
there is a god butt get over it phil
September 12th, 2007 at 1:41 am
Don’t think I have’nt noticed that certain people on this page have been denying my existence.
I am not amused and will be having words with you when you get “upstairs”, so you had better buck your ideas up unless you like the smell of burning sulphur
September 12th, 2007 at 9:13 am
I think the reason I’m so upset with the first post is that I desperately want to believe that I’m smarter than everyone who believes in God. And because, clearly, prosthetics require intelligence…uh…I don’t want to believe that a religious person can appreciate them on an intellectual level equal to my own. It bruises my ego, in other words.
September 12th, 2007 at 10:55 am
Well, after skimming through all that childish crap to post a comment, must I potentially be the first to point out that a missing earlobe is more than a mere defect in aesthetics? Now, I don’t know if she has hearing at all on that side, but if she does then this addition would be vital! Anyone who has had to perform in a musical ensemble with uneven hearing knows exactly what I’m talking about… However, if she can’t hear from that side at least she looks symmetrical. Why don’t you hacks go trash people getting boob jobs or the like instead? Not that this college student doesn’t get a kick out of reading you people acting like 6-year-olds who didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas…
September 12th, 2007 at 11:04 am
truly amazing work , it’s just beautiful to see the expression in the little girls face, please people grow up!! the senseless chatter on who made it possible, thank GOD for the doctor and the ability he has given him,and the girl that created the opportunity … look at faces of the parents … Ilove it.
September 12th, 2007 at 2:28 pm
It’s not amazing we can make a fake ear. Whats really amazing is how many people still buy into the church. If your reading this thinking “Well he’s going to hell”…i’ve got news for you…I can’t go to a non-existent place. God is just a fairy tale that was thought of long ago because they couldn’t explain how things came to be. Seriously step out of your damn ignorance. The world is turning Atheist…weather you fuckers like it or not.
September 12th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
How about instead of complaining that these people are bringing God into it, let them believe what they want and not criticize them for their beliefs?
September 12th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
I love how whenever a religious flame war breaks out, people rush over to try and be the defender of reason and open mindedness. Only to fail at the first hurdle because they tell people who are arguing to shut up.
Also, people have every right to say leave your God out of it. You turn people away at your door telling you about Jesus and the complain about it, so someone spouting out PRAIIIISEE JEEESSSUS at everything is the same thing.
September 12th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Dammit, grow up! Stop jabbering over silly polymers and religion and just stare and applaud in awe about the really nice photoshop!
September 12th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
That was actually really amazing. I feel really happy for the little girl.
Also, it’s really pathetic that this little argument over god is going on here. I’m an atheist and seeing these anti-god comments is making even ME offended; for god sakes, one comment and all the dumbest people suddenly pop up and beginning attacking god. I’ve no problem defending theists; I believe a person has a right to believe in whatever deity they want to as long as they don’t harm people because of their religion. I see no point in totally thrashing someone because they believe in god. Please, grow the fuck up.
This page is for others to see this heart-touching procedure for the girl. It isn’t for debating the existence of god. Please, leave your opinions on god out of it.
September 12th, 2007 at 7:24 pm
Why go to a Doctor for this? Any Hollywood makeup artist could do it.
September 12th, 2007 at 9:14 pm
So will she need to glue this thing on every morning? It doesn’t look like a permanent fix.
Nice that it makes her happy.
September 12th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
Thank DOC.
September 12th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
This is awesome. A girl gets to have her entire life changed before she can even truly appreciate the doctor’s work. Fact is, if she had not had the prosthetic, this little girl probably would have gone through life…scarred. So what is there to whine and complain about? Please stop bickering, it sickens me to see almost every beautiful image, video, scene spackled with peoples egos and My UnGod is better than your God…visa versa. Think about it as if it were your daughter. Sure, this doctor may have made bank on this operation, but still, don’t talk about humanity when you don’t even have the good nature to simply smile at this young girl’s new future.
September 12th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
I heard that for every time a debate on religion starts up on the internet, a girl gets a fake ear.
That or maybe a kitten dies, who knows..
September 13th, 2007 at 12:05 am
Hear hear, Amanda. It IS rude to invoke your diety in a public, secular forum. Keep your worship to your own churches and private prayers, theists - you really turn people off otherwise. In other words: We all have to live in the same society, so quit being such shit disturbers.
September 13th, 2007 at 4:03 am
jesus fucking christ. these are beautiful pictures of interactions between a little girl and her doctor, and you guys had to go and turn it into a religious flamewar. what the hell do you idiots do if someone says “Thank God” in public? i’m an atheist too, but people like you guys make me sick. grow the fuck up.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Thank GOD for her missing ear.
Thank THE NICE MAN who made the fake ear for her.
Buddha is not a god, by the way, you numbskulls up there.
Buddhism sees this sort of tragedy as to be expected in a godless world, as Buddhists are totally atheist (a deity is not God at all, it is a symbol of your own Buddha Nature).
Theists, on the other hand, are always making excuses for suffering, tragedy and imperfection… always trying to find a justification because it is necessary to keep their view of the world “sensible,” even if it is not sensible at all.
September 14th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Stop arguing about something that doesn’t exist. It is like arguing about the bearmanpig. lol . Science and nature made this happen.
When something good happens, for some people it is always god, but if it is bad they don’t even mention god, and if they do they say that: :God did this for a reason” lol.
September 14th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Actually, you’re all wrong, That man is NOT a doctor at all
He is retired from the CIA who made prosthetics as disguises for their agents So, no doc, and no god.
September 15th, 2007 at 2:16 am
thats good im sure the docter was charles bronson though
September 15th, 2007 at 3:42 am
This is fucking ridiculous. you fuckers are going to argue and try to make a point about God or no God. What the fuck. Be mature if you are so smart to realize that there was no god. Jesus christ, if you cant accept the fact that what happened to this little girl was nothing short of a miracle or blessing, then what have you become????? it doesnt matter if you dont believe in god at least have the decency to hold your tongue because this is about that poor little girl and not you or your (non)beliefs. Just leave your fuckin childish disgusting opinions out of it if you cant say anything nice about this little girl and the event that surround her.
September 15th, 2007 at 11:02 am
Wow thats amazing the look on the family and the doctors face thats life changing
god bless
September 16th, 2007 at 9:18 am
Erabulus, that is exactly the point any atheist would try to make: for religion to be left at home. Those that fuel the argument by mindlessly blurting “there is no God” are not atheists, they are trolls–on the internet and in real life.
“How did this become a debate about religion? Could both camps please leave their baggage at home?”
September 16th, 2007 at 10:23 am
who the heck wants to wait till they die… to find out if those believing in god were right all along..so go ahead take that chance..meanwhile I love the pictures and I applaude the doc…by the way knew a professed aathiest once ..guess what ..he had eye surgery to implant prosthecic eye and family found him praying to God for help and deliverence. One more thing for all you knuckleheads…I hope the little girl never learns to read so she wont see this verbal attack … she is innocent.
September 16th, 2007 at 11:36 am
Was the first post a troll? Capitalising GOD sure was a good way to spark off a debate. The point here is that good things can happen in the world and we should be happy for them. Posts about the existance or non-existance of a god (or multiple gods) should be made elsewhere in a more appropriate place. I myself am an atheist in case you wondered.
September 16th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
beautiful work, I wonder if she they closed her ear from an accident or scarring, and if they can reopen it so she’ll have hearing too wouldn’t that be great… Awesome job, you can bet that little girl will be thanking Robert Barron for the rest of her life.
September 16th, 2007 at 6:09 pm
beautiful work, I wonder if they closed her ear from an accident or scarring,or if she was born that way, seems closed by a Dr. I wonder if they can reopen it, and if she’ll have hearing too wouldn’t that be great… Awesome job, you can bet that little girl will be thanking Robert Barron for the rest of her life.
September 16th, 2007 at 8:14 pm
What the hell is wrong with you people?! What does it matter if this is a work of god or science?! Bickering like a bunch of children over what to thank for her ear, you all make me sick. Turning something so positive into a pointless argument.
Just be happy for the kid, this is beautiful!
September 16th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
Wow people are crazy.
-”Thank God”
-”NO NEWB TEH R NO GODZ, I HATE YOU OMG !!11!1!”
-”YOU R WRONG I KNOW ALL, GOD PWNS!!1″
-”NO GOD AND SCIENCE CANNOT BOTH EXISTS THAT MEANS THERE IS MIDDLE GROUND!! FUCK MIDDLE GROUND!”
-”I MAKE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE YOU ARE ALL IDIOTS BECAUSE YOU CANT THINK FOR YOURSELF, I ON THE OTHER HAND AM DIFFERENT BECAUSE I DONT BELIEVE WHAT MOMMY AND DADDY TELL ME!”
My question is why does it matter what someone else believes. Everyone got crazy because one person thanks their god, why?
Oh and by the way Buddhists believe that all positive religions lead to god.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:51 am
You people are morons. This little girl loves her new ear. She probably hated walking around without it, feeling like an outsider. Can u imagine being a little kid and being different from the other kids? this is an amazing series of pictures where at the end the little girl kisses the doctor for helping her to look and feel normal.
September 17th, 2007 at 10:54 am
If this little girl reads this she would be so hurt. Kids are cruel but some of you are horrible to be adults. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Be happy for her.
September 17th, 2007 at 2:16 pm
What the hell is wrong with you people?! (Just saw that that was Devon’s starter, too, guess we share the same sentiments.) What does it matter what we believe in or not?! This isn’t a piece on RELIGION. It’s a piece on a little girl who doesn’t have to get made fun of because she’s not built like “The rest” of humanity! If you’re going to comment, comment on how this little girl doesn’t have to go through what people born without ears or arms or legs or feet, or half-purple lips have to go through.
According to the constitution, people have the right to say WHATEVER they want WHEREVER they want so shut the fuck up, grow the fuck up, get the stick out of your ass and get off your high horse.
So as not to offend you christian/jewish-bashing assholes:
thank haruhi that this man took the years to study to get to the point where he can save this little girl’s mental health, and shield her from bullies and intolerants like yourselves.
September 18th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Wow.
I really don’t see any point on arguing over whether or not there is a God, or several gods or deities or what have you.
It is not like we are ever going to know the “truth” in this lifetime, and even if there is a next lifetime, we probably still won’t know the “truth”.
Perhaps we should focus a little more on something we can deal with in this lifetime. Like helping all of our Veterans find a safe place to live so they are sleeping on the streets anymore.
September 18th, 2007 at 10:13 pm
OMG YOU PEOPLE!! One person says thank god and you ALL START SPIRALING OFF ON YOUR RELIGIONS AND ABOUT WHOS RIGHT AND WRONG!!! WHAT ABOUT THE LITTLE GIRL?????? What that doctor did is amazing and now she has a new life. You guys suck
September 19th, 2007 at 9:03 am
There are a number of steps missing. He made a caste of the right ear. How did he get the positive of the left ear?
If you make a positive caste of your right hand, then try to fit it on your left wrist, your thumb would be where the pinky is. This whole post does not make sense.
As well, the guy is not a doctor - he makes prosthetics.
Not sure how it gives the girl a new life - the audible canal is still blocked. If a community is shunning her because of a small deformity - then the new life might be better acheived in a new community with a more forward outlook.
Not sure how God created this ‘powerful’ message, he had a lot to do with the initial deformity. Is the message that we should be correcting God? Doesn’t that usurp his authority? Isn’t the actual message that we should be accepting this child as she is and find a way to help her through life? Looks like we are just cramming a round object into a square hole - if a ‘message’ is being conveyed.
Otherwise, nice ear.

I don’t need to know all the details to see that this is a sweet story in pictures about making a little girl feel happy and well. Very nice.
September 19th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
I am with some others that very much dislike the Anti-Christian feeling that is currently sweeping America. If I went to another country and they praised Buddha, I wouldn’t be offended. If I was in America, and someone praised Buddha, I would not be offended. But I were to praise Jesus, some Anti-Christian atheist is sure to pipe up and tell me to shut up my religion. Meanwhile, they would feel perfectly justified for screaming their lack of belief in any god at the top of their lungs whenever they chose to do so.
This Anti-Christian bull crap has got to stop.
September 19th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Why does it matter?
Why can’t you just let people believe what they’d like?
Stop trying to make people’s minds for them.
I believe in GOD. So what? How does that affect you? You’ll never meet me. So why do you try to convince me of your opinion?
And for that matter, what the hell does that have to do with the nice thing done here?
Stop bitching about how society is and just accept that people can do whatever they’d like. And if it makes someone else happy in the process, then great. God forbid (yes I am aware of my use of words here) someone be happy if you don’t agree.
so:
little girl, you rock.
doctor, you rock even more.
September 19th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
nice ear…. well, whether you all are wrong or not, doesn’t matter.. just make sure you don’t die and keep rolling in your grave or somebody piss on your grave or what ever u all believed in (maybe turns into acid or alkaline in ur grave
September 19th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Yea, and the winner is the little girl.
The loser, the last 80 blogs or so.
bunsel, I would imagine he put the negative (or cast positive) ear into a 3d scanner of some form, mirrored it and used that to machine the rough new mold. Then pored the mold and applied the form of the missing ear. This took several days or weeks to cast, scan, machine, cast, touch up, pain, and fit. But the end result is a happy little girl.
To Cheryle @ September 10th, 2007
In the future don’t say “Thank GOD, …” instead try “Thank God, …” and be careful when using it with “technology”. But I agree.
To both nonbelievers and believers, are there two national offices which look for pro/anti-religious blog posts, and send out news letter for people to attack the other side.
Why can’t you have a little smile for someone who believes enough to make an innocent statement like that and then IGNORE it. Instead “John” you attack god, and make a weak claim for polymers and science. I am almost ashamed to be a physicist.
Fraggle, i agree with you.
spaghettimonster, I some of the most irrational people I have met have been non believers. While most believer I know are very rational. I won’t claim that is always the case. Though, for you, I don’t feel we should only teach evolution, creativity nor intelligent design, I feel all should be tough. Along with a good non-bias comparison of the major religions, including athesim and agnosticism. But that is a debate for another page.
To the rest of you why argue about religion over this forum. There are hundreds or thousands of better places to hold this debate. Not a page showing a little girl and the process of changing her ear.
To many of you, why do you feel necessary to use the F-word, and JC, and other negative terms to present your feelings. I have often heard that the use of swear words is the sign of a lack of intelligence. Instead of saying “would you shut the f#@$ up” could you instead try “could you please be quiet” or “would you please stop typing.”
as for
lulu @ September 18th, 2007
you said
“Like helping all of our Veterans find a safe place to live so they are sleeping on the streets anymore”
First, I don’t think the troops need to be brought into this, though I so much I could say on that issue.
Second, If I talk about the veterans it is to find them a place to live OFF the streets. I will grant you right to add and n’t to you your statement and then look back at “lulu : First”
Third, if we start talking about the troops, next we will talk about Bush’s war being illegal, and how the Bush tax cuts help everyone, and this and that, and how Ron White is the only comedian worth paying money to see.
I truly mean the troops and Vets no disrespect, for your service I have the right to say what I want. Thank you for the service I have yet to enlist for.
Again to the specialist thank you for you skills and being able to help this girl, and many other people in need.

“Thank God” seems to be a phrase this person used to express their joy in seeing a child spared from inevitable hardship. It may seem cruel to torment this girl for her deformity, and yes maybe we should change, but it’s not going to happen. There is a REASON that the girl would be teased for her ear, and why it’s so ubiquitously accepted that she would be teased. Whatever the case, being fearful of those that are different was inherited. It served such a great purpose in the past that we’re all here because of it today. Lucky for her we can cosmetically change her appearance.
September 19th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
Im atheist
no, i don’t bash on religious people.
Its your choice whether you want to believe in god, and yours alone
So,Stop arguing already.Yea,everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But when one person bashes on another persons opinion, with THEIR own opinion, it starts to get annoying. Especially when you really should just be commenting on how moving it was to you, and how it affected you in a positive way, not flaming each other
BTW, that doctor is amazing, and the picture of the girl kissing the doctor on the cheek is priceless
September 20th, 2007 at 9:43 am
Oh, geez. Back to the original set of images.. wow, that gentleman crafted a very life-like ear for the child. The craftsmanship is amazing. It’s great to see such a smile on a child’s face. Thank you, Mr. Barron for your work. Thank the EAR.
September 20th, 2007 at 10:16 am
Oh man. What has happened here?
The guy makes a little girl a prosthetic ear so she can feel like she fits in, and that is touching to people.
Can’t we just leave it at that?
September 20th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
That’ll make a cool party trick when she’s older.
September 22nd, 2007 at 4:27 pm
I’m really impressed, that’s what science should be used for
September 23rd, 2007 at 12:47 am
You silly little dweebs. Why must you all judge this little girl. I am amazed at all the sap sucking twits that turned this in to a god vrs the athiests vrs the humanists vrs the know it all worms that you all are acting like. If I met you on the road I would impale you on a rusty spike and feed your guts to swine. Let the little girl alone to be happy with her image that includes a prosthetic ear. What the hell is wrong with you dumbass dolts. Why the crap do you digress this into a theological showcase of good vrs evil or some such useless dribble??? Rot in HELL. Every last moron that posted crap claiming this is somehow bad for this girl or your penny pissin opinions about whether or not god played a role in it all. Get a flippin life or may you pissants have your ears ripped off by an autistic child with razor sharp teeth.
September 25th, 2007 at 4:24 pm
The Lord taketh away and science giveth. Amen.
September 30th, 2007 at 2:20 am
I live in an old abandoned hut in the eastern region of Port Moresby, and i have no ears. I pray everday to GOd that lives under my bed for the chance to have what that little girl has. Im 89 years old. Please give to the children of Budapest because i really like tomato soup.
October 3rd, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Amazing, this little girl will be forever changed, only time will tell how it affects her, I believe she was blessed to have a Doctor to care as much as he did. My heart goes out to her to be strong and learn that looks shouldn’t be everything. Maybe one day she will help change the world.
Live and Love!
October 4th, 2007 at 12:32 am
wow. Ok people I understand that not everyone believes that there is a God. fine, to each his own, make your own decision. To come on here and make a big deal about somebody saying thank God is just NUTS. that person coulda said thank buddah and probably 9 out of 10 of you people would have thought nothing of it. lol…
any way I just wanted to say I think that this is a nice little set of pictures and it’s nice to see that it’s possible for people born without an ear can look “normal” as we’d call it. however even if she had to go her whole life without an ear and I ever ran across her I’d wouldn’t treat her different from other ppl.
October 4th, 2007 at 4:41 am
i do not belive what i am reading. i am 70 years old and have not led a shelterd life but i weep for our world i wont call it civilisation as it will never again reach those levels, When thier is so much sadness and hate in YOUR lives. You just live for you Day on Jerry Springer before you die with a smile on your face Having made it.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:38 am
YAY little girl! If my daughter wanted an ear I’d get her one, period. You think it’s wrong to want an ear? To fit in with the rest of the kids so she can get on with the rest of her life? We all accept our looks to some degree or else we couldn’t leave the house every morning but generally we, I don’t know, what…comb our hair? That’s not natural, that’s changing our looks. Is that wrong? Does that mean we’re going to get a boob-job next year? And god? This is not about God…the girl needs an ear. She got one. That’s all. Now her life can be about something other than her ear.
October 4th, 2007 at 8:40 am
“You leave your god out of this. This is polymers. This is science”
You leave your god out of this. This is polymers. This is science.
OMG!
btw. nice work, but the ear isn’t growing
October 4th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
God has nothing to do with this. Neither does science. It was a post ment to uplift and make people feel happy, like there really is people out there who care. Enjoy it and use it to uplift your day and stop trinh to pick a fight with it.
October 4th, 2007 at 5:26 pm
hmmm, for all those saying humanity needs to change instead of science accomodating…how ’bout you go out and start changing humanity instead of making insipid comments from the comfort of your home? it’s real easy to say things need to change instead of going out there and doing something about it.
October 5th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
ok ya why dont all of u athiests shut up because wat happened to that girl was not a messup by god. everyone is beautiful in their own way and if we would figure that out and stop printing a freaking page on obesity every week peopl might believe it. in reality, however, it so happens that people shun those who are different, and, although a fake ear cannot change her true beauty it may make some people accept it. Plus, without god there would not be men like that to help other people accept reality and get over the fact that she has one ear.
Science=man’s creation; man=gods creation so there for
Science= gods creation.
Now if all you would learn that some religion can tie in with science there would be no argument!!!!
October 5th, 2007 at 10:12 pm
you people who believe in god are so weak. fuck god.
October 5th, 2007 at 11:52 pm
I was born with this exact condition. No right ear, just an earlobe, no hole. It’s called Hemifacial Microsomia.
My parents told me that they were offered a solution similar to this, but they opted to get it reconstructed with skin grafts and grafts from cartilage from my ribcage (this was in the 70’s). They were afraid it my get ripped off in a crowd. I kinda wish I had this solution, it would be awesome to be able to freak people out by ripping my ear off. What a party trick.
To the people decrying the fact that the parents resorted to plastic surgery instead of teaching children to accept it… you are naive and idealistic. You have no idea what it’s like to go through life with a deformity. It sucks. Kids will rip into you just to get the attention off of themselves.
As for god, I don’t believe in it. But let others have their faith if they need it.
Erabulus’ post - word.
October 6th, 2007 at 5:17 am
LOL
This child was helped by a man who can shape polymers.
Did she need the help? Yes, sadly enough she did, because there are still people out there who do not accept others the way they are, and children’s mockery of one’s “shortcomings” can be very painful.
Do we have to drag deities into the thanking of this man’s abillities? Not really. Some say that if the deity has done anything, it has not given the girl her ear in the first place, others want to thank it for creating Man and his brain.
Let’s say there is a deity at all… Was it the God of the Christians or Allah of the Muslims? It can’t have been Buddha, because he was never a god. Just a smart and compassionate man, like some see Joshua/Jesus.
There is no need to attribute this bit of technical prowess to a higher power. We can attribute it to the power of Man’s brain. It was the time and money this man’s parents (and possibly himself) put into putting him through Medical school that enabled him to do this and it was also the love and misguided need to “fix” their daughter of the girl’s parents that gave her the new ear.
That and other smart peoples’ parents causing those people to develop and discover the techniques and materials the man used.
God, Allah, Ctullu or any other deity had nothing to do with it, other than maybe providing inspiration.
October 6th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Hugs for the dear Doctor.
October 6th, 2007 at 8:34 pm
The work this doctor performs is a work of talent and great skill as for this cristal gripping moron who speaks of humanity…have you been on the planet long? No one is humane and thats just the way it is if you would like to change that there are more apriopriate ways than posting your ass lancing beliefs on a comment board. Oh and for the religious debate going on before you are all pathetic and need hobbys that don’t involve the internet or the public in general please spares us. I will never post or visit this site again as I have better thuings to do with my time so please insult what I say all you want if it makes you feel better, but just fro fun I ll just tell you I ll never see it so ha!
October 7th, 2007 at 12:21 pm
Ehh… what is wrong with debating the nonexistence of God? Of all off-topic discussions on all the Internet, why do people choose to attack the discussions trying to shed light on the fact that religion is the vilest poison of the mind?
October 7th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
It was a good photo album.
I think the reason many of us atheists, and skeptics in general are so upset about bringing god into a post that is about showing the wonders of modern science and technology is for a simple reason. Religious thought is starting to infect the publics opinion on science.
Just think about that for a second. If religious thought starts infecting the way the public views science, we would stop developing new technologies, we would make absolutely no progress, and if taken too far, we might lose some of the progress we have made. The sciences are what gives humanity the tools we have. We use science to look to see exactly how the world around us works, and then we figure out the tools we need to make to manipulate it to do what we want. Science gives us the ability to control our environment.
So yes it is important that we start waking people up, because the idea of faith is the most destructive force on the planet. Think about what faith means. It means to think something is true, despite any and all evidence against the idea. I mean, if you never can actually measure that something you say is happening is happening, why would you think it is really happening. For instance, many people think praying for the sick can actually heal them, we have actually done experiments to see if the people prayed over were more likely to be healed than people not prayed over. We even checked it it made a difference whether it was a priest or church official pray over the sick people. It didn’t make any difference what so ever. Both groups recovered at the same rate. There are many many arguments, free will vs omniscience: Where is there room for free will when it is claimed a being knows every decision you will ever make? Free will in general: We know that everything we have ever observed operates under the laws of thermodynamics. That is everything in the system simply tends to get to its most probable state, its highest entropy state. Basically every decision made could be predicted by a very accurate model? That is omnipotence in general: Can a being create a rock that is too heavy for himself to lift? And many more.
Anyways, go science, go away religion and other sorts of magical thinking.
October 8th, 2007 at 1:43 am
EXCELLENT!!
MY SON WHO HAS SAME TYPE OF EARS AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE
PLEASE PROVIDE ME THE DETAILS SO THAT I WILL TRY IF FOR MY SON……IF POSSIBLE.
IF NOT, ATLEAST IT WILL GIVE HOPE FOR THOSE WHO CAN THINK FOR IT.
THANKS & LOVE TO ALL
October 8th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Many folks need religion to justify things. Might as well just cool your objections though–they outnumber us non believers 6 to 1 and they will defend their god to your death. They always have. As example is that clearly religious sectarian civil war America so foolishly became involved with in Iran.
The doctor is nothing special, just a guy with a job. I make things too. It is not difficult. That he did it for no charge would be exceptional however.
Children are teased by children when they look different. She still will be teased for her fake ear. It doesn’t stop until you learn enough to understand that it doesn’t really matter and let her be.
So, folks, let it be. Be nice. Be happy. Let anyone be the jerk they have become. It’s OK. Really…
October 9th, 2007 at 8:33 am
Well, I was going to complain about the comments- you assume I was going to complain about whoever you think I was going to complain about- but instead, I’ll just say how wonderful for this little girl. I’m happy she got a new ear. It’s sad that people are such that she would “need” it to live a “normal” life, but that’s the way it is and now- she has it.
October 9th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
wonderful story. very happy for the family but i have to agree with previous comments. I don’t see religion displayed in this…i see a man doing his job.
October 9th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
and i agree with amanda. its horrible when people are afraid they won’t be “normal” because of what society says . . . and because of the looks, jokes, and what not from others.
October 10th, 2007 at 8:36 am
so,…The man with grey hair is god,the woman is buddha and the child is some sort of celestial message saying we all need to learn to use our ears and the world will be saved by the new god science!!!!! Is that about the gist of it or am i way off the mark here? Anyway, liked the photos and good luck to the little girl - we all deserve any break we can get!! you fanatics believe what you want[whatever turns you on i suppose.] I believe ill have another coffee
November 18th, 2007 at 11:44 pm
it’s apparent that many of the posters here will burn in hell.
November 24th, 2007 at 12:44 am
wow! all this for a thank god??
everyone has the right to express themselves as they want to
religion destroys… God doesn’t have anything to do with religion
religion are just rules
Even Buddhism has many similar things to Christianity
whether if you believe it or not… I believe in God but this doesn’t have to do with it
the best religion we can take is respect for others and their thoughts
December 6th, 2007 at 6:29 pm
i am pretty sure science caused the polymer and science found an external cure for it as well.
December 23rd, 2007 at 1:26 pm
@jarjarbinks: It’s YOUR god, it’s YOUR rules, YOU burn in hell.
January 2nd, 2008 at 5:24 pm
guys…. there’s nothing to arguing about this, it’s a simple we have our own believes,.. GOD have a reason why he made that…? NOR…. a Doctor an instrument to fix it…
January 9th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Just a small question for those of you staunch atheists: how does this post (or anything else) have any meaning without the existence of a Higher Power? Darwinists claim we are evolved hunks of biomass. Why help out a child? Because, if you know even a snippet about the history of this world, humanity blows. I shouldn’t help anyone but myself. Good and bad have absolutely no meaning, in the end.
God is the only source that can give this life any sort of meaning. Otherwise, nihilism rules.
Thank God for people like this.
March 27th, 2008 at 10:29 pm
When I looked at this picture, I wasn’t thinking about controversial issues, I teared up because I was happy for this little girl. I am Deaf and when I was 7 I had plastic surgery to pin my ears back because my hearing aids wouldn’t stay on my ears. All this talk about religion, vanity, and humanity; one hardly focuses on how this affects this little girl, yes she has a normal look now, but chances are she cannot hear out of that ear and might need a cochlear implant if she so chooses. A girl this age doesn’t know the meaning of vanity but she most certainly knows how cruel children can be if you don’t look ‘normal’.
March 27th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
amazing
April 8th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
the funniest thing about this is the fact that all of you anti-religious people would not have the fingers to type what you are typing or the eyes to see it, if it was not for God creating you….you should be thankful of God’s greatest creation….YOU
May 27th, 2008 at 7:00 pm
That’s a terrible argument, an atheist would simply assume fingers were par for the course in evolution. Thus not requiring a meddlesome God’s interference. What everyone forgets, is if there is a God and he created everything (and I believe there is and that he did). Then he created the science and logic that atheists are so fond of saying they are employing. He created atoms and sub atomic particles and the rules and laws in which they are subjugated by. If there is a God, and I believe there is, then He created doctors and medicine so you wouldn’t have to “pray your ear back.”
If we thank God for this girl’s “miracle” it is solely because this Doctor was created for the express purpose of preforming this miracle from God through his hands. My God is a God of reason and science. He’s not a frikkin unicorn flying about granting wishes and firing rainbows from his butt. Still I see many valid points on this page. This is about a little girl who finally feels whole, and that should be celebrated. Not debated over whether science or God is responsible. I realize I am also a culprit of this but I can’t seem to keep my mouth shut when I see something stupid. It’s stupid of me I know but I can’t help it.
January 4th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
someone before me asked if we would prefer if they said “thank Buddha!” i really think that would be more acceptable to people. btw, Buddha isn’t a God =/
September 24th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
PEOPLE………………… GET A LIFE!!!!!!
October 5th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
what is the name of the doctor?
October 5th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
can i get more details of the doctor
November 3rd, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Of course it’s rich people who can afford this procedure. Of course the rich want a “normal” little girl for their normal rich W.A.S.P. family, so they buy a new ear. That little girl may be stoked now, but she’s at an age where she’s growing fast so that ear is going to be way too small in about a year. Unless the W.A.S.P. family keeps buying her a new one every so often, she’s going to be sadder than before, and without the sense of pride for who you are. Would you rather change who you are or be proud of what you have?
December 11th, 2009 at 3:17 am
Beautiful is the only word that comes to mind to appropriately describe this story. You can see the love between and the good in mankind. It is amazing that we not only have the technology to do something like this but also the incentive to help someone in such need. Although that little girl most likely does not understand the technology it still means the world to her. DON’T CHEAPEN IT BY ATTRIBUTING IT TO GOD. That is totally passing everything off that is good about this story and ignoring the realities of life. If he is omnipotent then couldn’t he have just given her ears? You will probably say something like “God works in mysterious ways” or “You don’t understand” but that is just a self comforting antic to supped your rationality and ignore any reason. Regardless of what you think about a higher power, why don’t you try to be independent and stand on your own without being a helpless suppliant to that power? After all, God helps those who help themselves.
