It really makes you wonder about people, doesn’t it

  2. Gary @ April 2nd, 2007

This is a tragic documentary of mankind. And yet life continues unabated.

Jade and Gary, welcome to the real world. If you’re so appalled and critical, then do something. Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s terrible, and it happens all the time, and it’s been happening since the first animals walked this Earth. Human nature, go figure.

  5. Leethee @ April 6th, 2007

WHAT is happened to the child who is on the last photo?

just one word… HOPE-we still have it, cling to it…

    So powerful, thank you

This is why humans are considered the worse creatures on Earth.

  8. Marisa @ April 16th, 2007

I find the 1989 tiananmen square photo to be an encouraging testament to the courageous spirit of people and everyone’s desire to be free. Unlike the others, that image is inspirational.

BTW, where are the photos of the Kurds that Saddam murdered? Where are the photos of Holocaust victims? Where are the photos of the mass graves from Milosevic’s regime?

  9. Patrick @ April 16th, 2007

Why do we do such horrible things to our fellow humans? :(

It is interesting to observe that bihind most of the suffering in one way or another stands the US goverment.

  11. spitfire @ May 1st, 2007

    > It is interesting to observe that bihind most of the suffering > in one way or another stands the US goverment.

Perhaps in this photoblog this comment is accurate, but lest we are ignorant of history, the USA came along only in the last 250 years.

  12. Unchainedthought @ May 6th, 2007

These images give people purpouse. I would like for them to show them every day or even put them on calenders. Why? Because in life there is more purpouse for us americans and others that are more fortunate to actually make a difference with picking out a cause to stand for something.

If you don’t stand for anything you will fall for everything.

the united states is just very good at hiding all the shit that they start. Their leader is a babbling monkey but congress and the CIA are cunning. The vietnam war was one of the most pointless conflicts in history. The united states actually then has the courage to speak of The Soviet Union using propaganda? THe government at the time tried desparatly to brain wash the public about the war, but failed. That image with the naked child running down the street was testament to US blunderment. The child’s village had just been completely napalmed(a napalm bomb is one of the most unaccurate bombs ever devised and torches everything in its proximity). And for SPITFIRE….these are pictures above just so you know. THe US came around only about 250 years ago yes, but cameras came about a bit later in history, so i believe the comment above yours was referring to the pictures, not the entire history of comflict which spans some odd 10 thousand years.

  14. It doesn't matter @ May 19th, 2007

Shit happens. It always will happen. Carry on with your own lives and stop worrying about everybody else’s.

  15. Nate @ May 20th, 2007

Pictures are real, but the comments under each picture do not tell you the whole story behind some. For example, for ‘February 1, 1968. South Vietnam police chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan shots a young man, whom he suspects to be a Viet Kong soldier.’, what it doesn’t telll you is that the Viet Kong soldier dressed in civilian cloths had just killed the mother and children in their own home of one of the Police chief Ngoc’s lieutenants. war is hell

  16. angela @ May 27th, 2007

wow, these are such strong images. something like this happens everyday, but we never stop to think about it. These are great images, keep them coming!

  17. Scott Bailey @ June 28th, 2007

Funny how most of this centers around the USA. Somethings never change…

If anything, the suffering has only escalated since the most recent of these was taken. Over a million Iraqi civilians dead is evidence of genocide. Depleted Uranium has elevated the levels of radiation in the region exponentially, and cancer rates have skyrocketed. The war crimes that our tax dollars fund are only beginning to become exposed. Our hands, the hands of every tax paying citizen in the United States, are covered in blood.

I’m not an American, but even I get a little sick of the constant US bashing. I guess it’s always easy to point the finger at someone else, after all, there’s nothing like a good scapegoat… Here’s a couple of questions for those with the outstretched fingers; what nationality were the people who were responsible for the holocaust? what nationality was responsible for the atrocities in the FMR? what nationality was responsible for the establishment of apartheid? While the mistakes that the US have made are numerous, I cannot accept that they are responsible for all man’s demonstrations of how inhumane we can be. Bottom line: there are bad people all over the world, quit trying to pass the buck.

  23. glitterygirl @ December 12th, 2007

I am not so glittery right now. I am ashamed to be part of the human race after seeing these images. May the Lord help us all.

  24. Brad @ December 23rd, 2007

Sad. I’ve seen things like this before. But never took the time to really focus on them, to take time out of my day to think about how bad things really are. I’m whining about relationship problems, and about what I’m getting for Christmas, or what the latest drama is. It’s time to drop these things and start to change the world, one person at a time. I change myself, and wait for the others to follow. May we not ask the Lord for forgiveness, but only in the deepest part of the human heart shall we find the answer to forgiveness. So be not ashamed of what you have done, but be courageous on what you can fix.

  25. dave @ January 8th, 2008

The picture of the people and the naked Vietnamese girl running from a bomb should note the bomb was Napalm. Napalm is a pure ball of fire.

  26. realist @ January 11th, 2008

What an useless, if not amusing, piece of moralizing bullocks.

Do you love misery and tragedy so much that you want to shove it down to everyone’s throat?

Life is horrible, get over it. No wonder you leftists and Christians are so insecure and weak if every suffering human being makes you weep for “more ethical treatment.”

Regardless of what you insist, life is pure beauty. With or without mankind.

  27. james @ January 11th, 2008

    “I believe… In tragedies. I believe… in desecration!”
    - Abbath
The message? Life is tragic, but life is beautiful. stop whining and get used to it.

I wish I had known that by “powerful” you meant fucking God awful disgusting deaths, all manner of torture, pain, fear, and cruelty.

And here, I thought images of beauty and kindness could be powerful.

I suppose, not being American, I could never be expected to understand “power.”

  31. brad @ March 12th, 2008

Excellent pictures showing history, makes you feel happy your sitting at a computer typing instead of in war.

  32. Olafur Eliasson @ April 13th, 2008

These are some of the most powerful and explosive photographs ever taken. However, the captions lack even the bare minimum amount of information and citations required for this collection to be considered legitimate.
    Really horrible job.
